Yes that is correct the only way to cancel auto renewal is to talk to an Xbox Phone Support Agent.

90% of services require subscriber verification via phone to change or add services online self services are new and only feature certain things
this includes cellphone cable hydro etc etc
customer service has been around since the invention of the phone even before then
whisper customer service ain't new
