Cannot Recover Profile

Hello

A couple of days ago, my profile began showing signs of corruption. Now, I cannot even play offline.

When I try to recover profiles, I receive this error "The game couldn't start. Try downloading the game again."

I've attempted to clear the system cache, but I receive the same error.

Is there something I can do to fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

For the recovery to be successful you may need to delete the corrupted profile first(profile only).

I mean, I can't recover ANY profiles. I can't even get to the form where you input your gamertag and password and all that jazz.

But thanks, I'll try it.

Delete your profile, and THEN clear your cache. See if that works.

Hi there.

The cause to this problem could have something to do with the hard drive you're currently using. Do you have another one? Or another xbox 360 to clarify this?

If you have another hard drive or a secondary xbox 360 system try recovering your xbox live gamertag on to one of those, if you can then the problem is the hard drive and not your profile.

It's definitely a problem with the harddrive. I can recover my profile on my 20gb hdd perfectly fine, but like I said originally, when I try to recover ANY profile on my 250gb hdd, I get the "The game couldn't start. Try downloading the game again." error.

Is there some way that I can force the system to redownload system updates without reformatting? Otherwise I may just have to buy a memory stick.

I'm getting the same issue. It won't let me recover anything. Did you find any help with that?

I'm getting this problem as well! Has anyone found a way to resolve this? I'm not buying another 360 harddrive just to recover!

Sorry for the double post but I found a solution around this, although hopefully microsoft will do a patch to fix this, here is one way around it.

First off you need to be connected to xbox live and you need a flash drive , atleast 1gb. Delete the profile data you are trying to recover from your HDD. Turn off your 360 console remove your HDD. Restart your 360 and format your flashdrive for your 360 if you have not already done so. Download the 360 system update to your flash drive, then recover your profile to it as well. Once finished with that turn off your 360 and replace the HDD. Move your newly recovered profile from your flash drive back to your 360. Voila, a little sloppy but it works, and it wont require the flash drive past the profile move, nor the deletion of your harddrive data aside from the profile your trying to recover. Hope this helps!
