Cannot do anything with one friend

Okay.. Hi there! So I have this problem and need some help.. My friend and I are unable to do much of anything. We are unable to join each other's games, private chats, parties, anything. We both have OPEN NAT and are able to play online with others, but we seem unable to do anything with each other. We're starting to think Microsoft hates us.. I would appreciate any help given! ^^ Thank you for reading this!

Is this happening recently? If yes check your xbox live status because for a few days there has been a Xbox Live service alert regarding multiplayer issues.

The first thing that comes to my mind, regarding you and your friends situation, would be if you both reside behind a common NAT. This would mean if you both connect within the same College, or Univ, or if you use the same ISP which are using a Large scale NAT topology, which could include a common NAT.

Please verify if you both are using different ISP for Internet connectivity.

This has been happening for over a month and it appears to only affect one friend of mine. And we are nowhere near each other, so the ISPs are different. Thank you for the suggestions though. ^^

You say, "this has been happening for over a month", is there anything in your, or your friends network setup that may have change, for example, new service provider, new networking Equipment etc.

To save yourself and your friend some time, can I have both of you answer the questions up front, so we can have a better understanding of your situation, along with any troubleshooting steps you have tried so far.

I am having this problem as well, i cannot play with one specific friend but its fine with everyone else. I have not changed internet or nothing.
