Cannot connect/redownload profile using "Free" live account, Gold account on same XBox is OK

I noticed this problem a few weeks ago after I tried to login my account after Gold had lapsed.  I got the error where it said it could not connect to XBox live.  I tested the connection and it was OK.  I knew that already because throughout this whole process I can use my son's Gold account on the same machine OK.

I eventually got to the point where it suggested to redownload the profile.  I tried that, but it says it cannot download profiles at this time.

I got the bright I idea to use my 2-day code I got with Halo Anniv.  That fixed it...for two days.

Now I have the same problem I described above.  I am using a "free" live account but I can't login or download my profile.  The other Gold live account on the same machine works just fine.

Please help.

Hello Leviathan!  May I ask, what is the exact Error Message you get when trying to download your Gamertag please?  Please include any Status Codes you receive as well, normally starting with 800**** or 801*****, etc.  Thank you so much!

Hey Leviathan, sorry to hear about the issues with your free profile! Often, this issue can occur if there's an incomplete or corrupted profile stored on the console. Can you please go to Settings > System > Storage > Your Storage Device > Gamer Profiles, to see if any such profile is listed there? Please let me know! :-)

My profile is no longer listed on my storage device for my console.  It disappeared at the time that I first try to download my profile and that failed.

Okay, so there's nothing there, and you still can't download it? In that case, would you be able to try downloading your profile to a different memory device, such as a USB configured for use with Xbox 360? Please give that a try, and let me know how it goes!

I tried what you suggested.  I configured a thumb drive as a storage device and selected that as the destination while downloading my profile.  I got the exact same error.

Please help!
