Things you have tried: It will not connect to the internet and an 'x' comes up over the xbox to internet area on the connection test. I have tried everything that the xbox live support call center told me...turning both the modem and router off and waiting various amounts of time before i turn them on again...ive tried manually entering the IP address and other numbers needed etc. I have also tried all the suggestions on the xboxlive website.

After you run "Test Xbox LIVE connection" and click on "More info", what is the exact message shown on screen? Could not identify IP address, and restart the modem and also to try to enter the computers mac address....the last of which might be the problem...i dont understand how to (like the xbox support guy told me on the phone but he didnt guide me through it well enough....
