Cannot connect to Xbox LIVE for weeks

A few weeks ago, my xbox live stopped working. I tried everything on the xbox site and nothing worked. I don't know what to do to help my connection.
I want to play LIVE again, because it is the best online gaming experience. Help?

Have you tried connecting your xbox straight to your router (via Ethernet Cabe) so your xbox can remember the connection. Therefore when you next turn your xbox on it should connect straight to your internet.

I cannot do that because my xbox is in my basement and the router is upstairs. in order to get the connection, I need the ethernet cable. the ethernet cable can give internet to the computer, but It doesn't give internet to the xbox.

Hi HUNTER! Can you describe your connect in a little more detail? Are you connecting your console through a shared connection from a PC?

Yes it does clearly if there is a slot in the back of the xbox that will fit the ethernet cable. Thats how i got the internet connection for my xbox when the internet wouldn't work

I am connecting to the xbox with a single ethernet cable. I use one cable for the xbox and the internet. So if I am using the computer, I have to take the ethernet cable out of the xbox and plug it into the computer. If I need to use the xbox, I unplug the ethernet cable from the computer and place it in the xbox. In other words, I can't be on both the computer and xbox at the same time.

Just a little more info on your network, where does this ethernet cable come from? Can you start with the wall outlet where the internet comes in and describe all the steps it takes to get to the console. Are you connected directly to the modem or router? Let us know, thanks!

The ethernet travels from upstairs using a long ethernet cord. That cord travels along the ceiling and eventually into my basement. The ethernet cord can be placed either in the cpu port or xbox port.
