cannot connect to xbox live after paying online

cannot connect to xbox live after paying online. it says the purchase has gone through but when i try to connect to a mw3 xbox live game it says 'The current profile is not allowed to play on x box live'. This is my only xbox profile, bought the gold membership 20min ago and does not work, does it take time? do i need a redeem code after purchasing off the x box website? any help will be greatful, thanks

Normally when you purchase a gold subscription it may take a little while before the servers are updated with your new details. You can try and speed up the procedure by downloading your Xbox LIVE profile. Here's How!
