Cancelling Xbox 360 Gold Account When Password Can't Be Recovered

My son is 14. When he opened his XBox Live account a few years back he did it with a hotmail.co.uk address and has forgotten the password. The password is unrecoverable, it could be anything. He was 10 when he did it and didn't write it down. Now he is basically locked out of his account permanently because of the new security thing. So I want to close down his old account and give him a new one. How do I close down an account without having its password? Can I just leave the account dormant? If so, how can I make sure it doesn't auto-renew and cost me a load of cash for nothing?

Thanks,

Antony.

Hey there, yes you can leave the account dormant, but if you are worried about personal information on the account I would suggest giving Xbox Phone support a call and trying to prove you own the account through those billing details and they should be able to get the account back for you: support.xbox.com/contact-us
