Can't update console...

I just tried to get on live after working this summer (xbox hasn't been used in 3 months), and there was an update that needed to be applied.  I went ahead and started the download, but it failed with this message:

Can't update your console. Please visit www.xbox.com/support.

Status Code: 3151-351F-B380-0402-C000-0001

This xbox is 4 years old, and was a replacement that Microsoft sent to me when the optical drive failed in my original 360.  I called support, and it was explained to me that this error code means that the xbox hardware has been tampered with, but I know for sure that I have never done that.  My console is banned from connecting to live.  I play 2 games regularly, which I own.  Therefore, I would have no need to tamper with it.

Is it possible that the replacement (which was obviously refurbished) had been tampered with by the previous owner and been sent to me?  Can I send my xbox in to show that it hasn't been tampered with?

Please help!

I would try that if it would let me.  I turned it on, and it won't recognize my controller, and just kept trying to update.  It gave me a different code this time:

Status code: 3151-351F-B380-0402-C000-016B

Looks like I'll be calling the support number again. Thanks for the suggestion!

Called again, this guy had to talk to his "supervisor" to tell me that this is indeed an error code that suggests tampering.  I asked if I could send it in to prove it to them that I hadn't tampered with it, and he said that I would have to pay for repairs since it's out of warranty.  There's nothing wrong with it!

Is this really my only option here???  They sent me a "tampered with" console when mine broke, and want to charge me to repair it now???

this kind of crap is why i spent an extra 25 dollars to extend my xbox's warranty. saves me over a hundred dollars if my xbox ever bricks itself again

Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.  I just feel like this is a scheme by Microsoft to get users with old consoles to update to newer ones.  I'll keep calling until I get some answers. This just pisses me off.
