Can't purchase membership

Every time I click to confirm purchase for a 12 month gold membership it comes up with a message:

This action cannot be performed at this time. Please try again later. For more information, go to http://www.xbox.com/support.

I first tried yesterday so I waited but the same message came up today. It doesn't say there are any problems with my payment methods so is this just an error with the site?

Have you tried on both the console and the website?

If you get the error on both, you may want to check your account at https://billing.microsoft.com to make sure all of your information is correct. If you still have problems, try calling support and talk to billing.
