Can't obtain IP address from your router

Just purchased a new XBOX 360 250GB.

Network tests work fine using a wired connection but wireless fails with the error "Can't obtain IP address from your router".

Have tried all the troubleshooting tips on the support page with no joy - the XBOX see's the wireless network but can't connect.

The router is a D-LINK DIR-615 Hardware Version C2 Firmware version 3.01 - the device tells me that there are no firmware updates available.

I couldn't find this device/firmware version in the XBOX compatibility list.

Does your router have an encryption key or password to connect to it and tried entering in that password on to your xbox 360?

Try deleting the wireless network and restarting your router and re-joining the wireless network, 9/10 problems can be resolved by doing this.

Also your firmware is quite old, never rely on the inbuilt checkers :) most are useless.

Download and use 3.13 before doing anything else:-

Can you tell us if your router is running DHCP.

Also, make sure you are entering your network key exactly as it is shown on the router. Some routers seem to be case sensitive.

Also, do you use any other wireless devices on the same network, WiFi enabled phone, laptop etc.?

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Wireless security is WPA, I tried removing and re-adding the wireless network, power cycled the router etc. The XBOX kept seeing the network but not getting an IP.

Firmware was the answer - updated to 3.03 and this solved the issue.

NOTE: the configuration settings would not re-apply from the backup I took prior to the firmware update, had to update these manually. Also, I had to remove the network from all wireless devices and then search/add/re-enter security key.

All working now - thanks again.
