Can't Connect to Xbox live through my Modem

I live in Australia and i'm trying use a wired connection from my speedstream modem to my Xbox 360 to be able to play online. When i try to connect it comes up with test failed, Cannot obtain ip Address, i used to have online before and used the same system, modem and xbox but quit and now it wont work. I have very recently obtained a new computer if the means anything to my problem. I have tried every possible solution and guides i could find but none have worked so far. Also i can connect to the internet on my Computer but not xbox live if that means anything to my problem.

Any help would be Great!?!

P.S i don't know much when it comes to technical computer networking.

Hi,

I've found some ADSL modems just don't get on with the Xbox when you connect them directly, is your modem configured with your PPPoE details like this:-

help.optuszoo.com.au/.../speedstream_4200

Or do you have a dialer icon on your PC that you have to click on before you connect to the Internet that has your PPPoE username/password in?

Have you tried resetting your Xbox network settings back to their factory defaults, its an option in the network part of the dashboard

Ok thanks.

So the modem is operating in bridge mode and I can only assume the Xbox doesn't like that, I've seen that with some Dlink ADSL modems as well.

On here:- help.optuszoo.com.au/.../speedstream_4200

Step 4 of 5 there is a NAPT option to select, that will put the modem into a mode that acts like a router, I would suggest you try that but you might want to discuss it with your Internet Service Provider first, they seem to suggest using Optus bridge mode

NAPT should work fine though but as I say you might want to call them / email them to confirm its ok to do that
