Can't connect to Xbox Live In-game

So I've been having this problem for a couple days now.  When on the dashboard I can sign into xbox live, view my friendlist, chat in party.  What I cannot do is the following

1.  See my achievements

2.  See my own avatar (appears as the generic grey sillohette).

However, anytime I put a game in, I am IMMEDIATLY disconnected from xbox live, no warning message or anything, I am just disconnected.  If I try to reconnect from in game it will tell me that it cannot connect to xbox live.  If I go back to the dashboard I can sign in again but once I boot up a game I am immediatly disconnected again (regardless of game).  I have tried clearing the cache which has had no affect neither has any reseting on the modem or router.

Greetings DurwaldCheddar!
It could well be that your gamer profile might have become corrupted. I'm going to ask you to remove your profile and recover it from LIVE. Follow the steps up front.

How to remove Xbox LIVE profile safely

  1. Go to Settings, and then select System.
  2. Select Storage.
  3. Select All Devices.
  4. Select Gamer Profiles.
  5. Select the gamertag that you want to delete.
  6. Select Delete.
  7. Select Delete Profile Only. This deletes the profile but leaves saved games and achievements.

Restart your console.

Download Xbox LIVE profile.

  1. Press the Xbox Guide button on your controller (large X button in the center of your controller).
  2. Select Download Profile.
  3. Enter the Microsoft account associated with your Xbox LIVE gamertag.
  4. Enter your Microsoft account password.

Post back and let us know if you were helped by this.

Re-download the profile. That should fix it. You don't have to delete first. When you go to download it, it will get deleted anyway. Plus if you fine the password is wrong or something then you still have the profile on the console. If you delete it first and find the password is wrong then now your profile is gone until you get the password reset.

Heads up! Before you remove your profile you have to know your Microsoft account and password.

There are circumstances where the only fix for a corrupted profile is to either remove the profile to a USB flash drive and then recover it from LIVE, or delete profile only from drive. You still need to know your Microsoft account and password for this to work.

Not to argue but I have never ran into an issue where you have to delete it first. It might be true but I have not seen it yet. Once they made that change where it deletes the profile first. Before that update yes you may have had to delete it first.

About 90% of the time, you don't need to delete. If you keep getting looped or errors, then deleting is a good idea. It really isn't necessary, though.

Thanks, I redownloaded my profile onto my hard drive (I normally store it on a USB since I visit friends' places with it) and I can stay on xbox live now.  The only oddity is now all of a sudden when I put Forza Horizon in the cars won't accelerate at all (as if right trigger doesn't work - but it works fine in other games) - and now finally the system is telling me that my old profile (the one still on USB) is corrupted.  But at least it's working again.  Thanks.

Or, are you driving with a manual shift? :)

I'm glad that you are up and running.

Happy gaming and play safe!
