Can't connect to Xbox Live, getting an error code: 80151911

Hi guys,

My Xbox 360 was working fine this afternoon when I was playing it but during the evening, it couldn't detect my HDD. I contacted Support and it turns out that my HDD has crashed and I needed to buy a new one. I decided to try again later and this time my Xbox managed to detect my HDD, however, I couldn't connect to Live and the signing in process was very slow. A "Disconnected from Xbox Live" message would pop up and I would get a message saying:

"Your console can't connect to Xbox Live. Do you want to exit this session and test your network connection? If you are playing a game, you will lose any unsaved progress. 80151911"

I've tried testing my connection, everything works, my console's able to connect to Live but when I try again the same message appears, I've cleared my system cache and tried again but the problem still persists. Anybody have any solutions? I'm desperately trying to fix this before GTA V comes out.

You need to delete your profile only and clear cache 3 times in a row and then download it again

If support has said that your HDD is bad and needs repair/replaced then you are gonna have issues with it until it finally just gives out.

Greetings Chaoz!

This error code means that there is a corruption on your storage device. This can't be resolved by simply clearing the Xbox system cache. However, there is one option that could solve this and that is to format the hard drive.

I would not recommend that you do this on your own without first contact Xbox LIVE support and have them instruct you how to do this properly.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I think I'm gonna try replacing my HDD, I managed to find a retailer who sells the older HDDs (really hard to find since the Slim models came out) and his stocks only come in next week, so we'll see how this goes!

Hi ChaozD3ath,

As taidara suggested formatting the hard drive does indeed work.  I was having exactly the same error (which according to support is exceedingly rare).  I had tried everything & was at my wits end before the format.

A full list of things I had tried are listed in the thread I had on here forums.xbox.com/.../1576271.aspx

What you could try to do is disconnect your WiFi for 30 seconds then plug it back in, Then test your connection then if everything checks out good go ahead and try to download your account again and if you get the same popup if you have a alternative email try that.
