Can't connect to Live

Okay, I have been trying everything I can think of to get my connection fixed and nothing is working and it was fine just yesterday.

When I go to test the Xbox Live connection it fails at the first one and says that it can't obtain an IP address and the on it's getting isn't right. It's starting with a 169 instead of 192. The description says, Unplug power from router or modem for 30 seconds, I have done that still nothing. I've completely shut everything off for a few minutes and still the same message. I'm only using a modem, no router and it is DSL. Also I have tried entering the IP manually and still no go!

I need help!
