Can you use a microphone *only* with the XBOX 360 controller?

I really don't like using headsets and I have really nice IEMs (in-ear microphones) that most likely sound better than most of the sub $150 headsets available.

I tried connecting the original headset that came with the XBOX to the controller and putting the headset on my collar to use the mic while using my IEMs, but the problem I ran into is that when I plug in the original mic while using my IEMs, all the voice communication will cut out and go to the XBOX headset instead of my IEMs.

My setup for my IEMs is: The Trapezoid shaped plug with RCA connectors to a 3.5mm connection that I connect to my IEMs.

What I'd like to do is buy this mic: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00029MTMQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

get a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002ZPFAS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A2XNAOBSW0CZDL

and connect that to my controller so that I can get all sound through my IEMs and still communicate using the separate mic.

Is this possible?

As far as I know there is no way to split the chat function to 2 devices like this.
I think you will either have to buy a decent headset if you are not happy with the one you have or just continue using it as is.

Actually, I got a response in another thread that got it working.

You can change where the voice comes through by following these instructions:

(1) Hit the XBOX button

(2) Go to preferences

(3) Go to Voice

(4) There are three options here to select where to send the voice through: (1) Headset only, (2) Speaker only, (3) Both.

You can also adjust the voice volume and in game volume while chatting in that same option.

I ended up ordering the mic since I got it working with the XBOX headset and my IEMs.

That's great, thanks for letting me know it is indeed possible.

I knew you could change where the voice played out from, but I truly did not know you could use one device (aside from your TV or regular headset) to listen and use a completely separate device to talk.

Nice going and glad to hear you got a positive result.
