OK, I have gone through the Xbox tutorial and it is not helped in the slightest. I have done all the steps probably 3 times just to make sure. Here is the mystery, my son left three months during the summer to spend it with his mother, before that it worked fine. I even talked him into letting his gold membership expire till he came back. I have since been messing with this thing on and off for a month tiring to connect to LIVE, so you could reactivate his membership.
Here is what I have checked and done over and beyond what Xbox suggest
- Manually updated the xbox via flash drive
- checked to make sure my DHCP router setting is enabled and the xbox is set to automatic
- reset all Network configurations in xbox to factory settings
