Buying a used console

Just a quick question....If you bought a console second hand and that console had been subject to a console ban would you be unable to use it for online play?  If so how would you go about finding out if the console was "clean"or not?  Dunno what made me think of it but its doing my head in now LOL!

A console that has received a ban can never be used online or even use any online features including updates.

the only real way to know is to try before you buy.

You could buy a used console and hook it up to Live and it connects okay, but if that console was flashed to play backup then restored to its original firmware, then it could be flagged for a ban which may happen weeks/months later.  Best to buy a brand new console.

Bottom line. If it's too good to be true, it usually is.

Microsoft does not necessarily ban consoles immediately when detected. They are known to gather up a group of consoles eligible for a ban, then ban them in a single batch. This is done to prevent hackers from probing MS's detection policies and procedures to see what they can get away with.
