If you're as annoyed by this as I am then you can do what I just did:

-

1) Go to: www.hidemyass.com/anonymous-email

2) Create a temporary anonymous email

3) Enter that new account as your alternate email

4) Get the verification code from your new account

5) Let your account expire (you can set the expiration to 24 hours).

-

If it takes 2 additional email then you can do it twice.

-

If you're really as pissed of as I am you can go the additional step to use your anonymous email to create an outlook.com account. Then use your outlook.com account as the alternate email. Then throw away the login in formation for your outlook.com account. This will cause Microsoft to maintain these DB entries in perpetuity for no reason.

-

You can also wait until they lock you out of xbox live, then call them and complain, because that costs them even more.

Then you'll need to add 2 alternate emails if you can't use a phone as a proof. Once you have 2 verified proofs on your account the message will go away. And no there is no way to get around it or block EVERYEONE has to do this weather they like it or not.

Add another security proof you need two incase the email is compromised

sms or phone number works nicely if a change is made on your email proof your sms will receive a msg asking if that was you making the change

I believe your security question is a proof as well. If you have one set up already, just change it on account.live.com/proofs.
