Being disconnected from Live when I go to play a game online

I can access Xbox Live at my dashboard, except for my apps, games online, or anything like it. Usually just testing my connection fixes my problem. The past today's however I still cannot access my games online. Can someone give me some assistance on how I can get back to playing my games with friends. (Note: I am on the new slim hardwired with turbo-boosted Comcast/Xfinity internet provider)

Could you describe your network setup more verbosely? Do you have multiple Xbox consoles in your network? Or is your PC running a Games for Windows client? What networking hardware do you use (please be specific. Telling us you have "that Netgear WLAN" won't help. But telling us you have "a Netgear WGR 614v3 connected to a SpeedyFast SF123 modem" will)
