Banned or not when using unauthorised HD

I got a xbox 360 s 4gb console and i would like to get a harddrive installed.

I got a SSD 60gb and a xbox 360 s cartridge for any 2,5" HD.

But I have read in some forums that if you install an unauthorised HD

in your console, you can be banned from Xbox Live.

Is this true, do I have to buy an original Microsft HD or can I use my own.

Yes, using an unauthorized HD does put you at risk for being banned. You are allowed to use an external HD plugged in via USB, but you are limited to using 32gb of storage space per USB device plugged in.
