Audio over HDMI with the Xbox 360 Audio adapter?

In the description on http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/accessories/hdmi-cable it says:
"If both cables are plugged in, the Xbox 360 console transmits audio over the audio adapter and video over the HDMI cable."

Does this mean that the audio will ONLY be transmitted over the audio adapter and ONLY video on the HDMI cable?
Or will the HDMI  signal include both video and audio?

I find the description a little lacking.

The video and audio will both go through the HDMI. With the adapter, it will make it so you can use certain headsets and extended audio set ups like surround sound and such. The audio will go through both your HDMI and whatever you have plugged into the adapter. If you want it out of one or the other, youll want to turn down the volume on the device you dont want to hear audio out of.
