Arcade Console Hard Drive

I am trying to play Xbox live on my Arcade console, however I need to buy an external hard drive so there is enough memory. I went to go and purchase one from JB Hi fi, but she said that they only make them compatible for the new consoles. Is this correct? What type of hard drive can I buy to plug in to my arcade console?

Can't say which normal HDD you can buy and plug in, but you could always use an USB flash drive.

support.xbox.com/.../usb-flash-drive

Or look at the option of buying a official xbox HDD support.xbox.com/.../storage

You'll want to get the external hard drive. It'll look like this: [View:http://www.ebgames.com/common/images/lbox/802643b.jpg]

I don't know how it is in your country but in mine the stores have stopped selling those since they are old. I would suggest looking at ebay or something similar because I don't think you can get one of those from the official xbox site either. But hey I just realize a game store where you can trade in your old games and accessories might have one. You could always ask.

The type of hard drive like the one in 'Mad Cow's" post is what you are looking for.  They are nearly impossible to find now, as they have been out of production for a long time.  Some Big W, or Target stores may sell them, but there is no guarantee they will, and it would depend on the individual store.

You would have more luck finding a second hand hard drive from somewhere like Cash Converters.

You could try amazon, they usually have some hard drives instock, but make sure it is an official one.  Here's one www.amazon.co.uk/.../ref=sr_1_1 as I don't know which country you are in, I have just shown you one from the UK site.  Also drives come with storage of  20GB, 60GB 120GB & 250GB.

Thanks guys - I'm in Australia BTW. Does the one shown by Mad Cow Disease fit into a USB port? That is what the girl was saying - they've stopped making the ones which plug into the old style Arcade consoles which go into a USB port

no a panel pops off of the top (if vertical) or side (if horizontal) you will see which one and then you snap on the hard drive to it.

Is this what you're talking about?

www.bestbuy.com/.../3340032.p

I had no idea what "best buy" was. I think they only have stores in Western Australia. Anyway if this is the correct thing to buy, I will just order it online from this site and get it shipped internationally.

That is not an official drive.  So I would not buy that if I were you.  Make sure you get an official one.
