A little confused

I'm new to the world of online gaming for a console, so bear with me. My question is, what's the difference between gamer points and Xbox Live points? Are the gamer points simply for bragging rights- a sort of "look what I've done" thing? Also, are the Windows Live forums on a separate website?

Gamerscore is the total of the achievement points you unlocked in games, XBL points are the currency you buy games/add-ons for and the Windows live forum is over here forums.xbox.com/.../default.aspx

There's gamerscore and there's Microsoft Points. I think you've figured it out though. Your gamerscore is the combined value of all your achievements you've earned by playing games. You can't spend them, they're just for show. The Microsoft Points are the ones you can purchase in stores or on your xbox with a credit card (I prefer buying it in a store though). You can use these to buy content for games or gamerpictures/themes/avatar items.

Thanks. Not sure I'm interested in bragging points, but fun's fun.
