I would have hoped Microsoft would have rectified this problem by now. It's been over a week now since my son has been able to sign in to xbox live. I pay for the service and I am extremely unhappy. I can't even email anyone to get an answer as to when it will be back up and running. Really pi**ed off parent! !!

Hey there BatteredHeart!

Sorry for hearing you having trouble connecting to Xbox LIVE.

Please try this soulution out:

"To resolve this issue, have the child account sign in to Xbox.com. Then, when prompted, the parent account associated with the child account should sign in to Xbox.com and give permission for the child account to sign in to Xbox Live."

Brilliant timing Microsoft!  Right before Christmas.

The suggestion solution doesn't work.  After going through everything necessary, it puts you in an endless loop of signing your kid in, then signing yourself in to verify that you want to update your kid's account, then it tells you there's no name and birthdate on the account and to have the kid sign in again.  Rinse, repeat.  Please bang your face into into screen, thank you.

I am caught in a cycle of the above problem. I am a degree educated IT manager and I cannot still get this to work.

I log into my childs live account and get:

"You need a parent's permission

Before you can sign in to this Microsoft account and use it with Microsoft websites and services, you need a parent's permission. If your parent is available now, ask them to sign in to this PC."

I click 'have a parent sign in' and get:

"We were unable to sign you in

Your account is missing a full name or date of birth. Visit account.live.com to update the required information, then try again."

I have paid for Live subscription and it is absolutely unacceptable to have no service!
