'Disconnected from Xbox Live'

Good evening,

I've been having trouble with my Xbox for the past couple of weeks (happens with my iPod as well).

Every now and again (about 5 times a day) I will get disconnected from Xbox Live for no reason even though I am still connected to the wi-fi. It happens when I play on games and watch Sky through my Xbox.  It also happens when I dashboard from a game or Sky - I will just get disconnected or get a message saying that certain Live features are temporarily unavailable.  I have to turn my Xbox off and on again everytime this happens to get Live working again.

I will also experience another thing where I am trying to search for a game online i.e. a FIFA or Battlefield match and it tells me either there are no matches available or to check my internet connection.  Thus I dashboard and then either get disconnected or get the message mentioned above.

It's only been happening for the past couple of weeks and I have no idea why; has anyone else experienced this or have a solution for me?

I should also mentioned that this doesn't happen with my brother's Xbox.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

This sounds like a wifi problem rather than a xbox problem.  have you tried using an ethernet to connect to your router? this might fix it

I would do so but the router is nowhere near my Xbox unfortunately.  Having said that there is an old router link in my room, it is no longer linked to the existing router.  I'll have to link it all up again when I get time.

How many bars of WiFi do you get when you go to Available Networks? Hint: 1-2 is lookin' fer trouble, 3-4 is AOK. Thant bein' said, sounds like the local profile is out of date or corrupted, and when an app or routine asks for data from it, it causes the involuntary disconnection. I'd start by clearing the system cache (it's just temporary files plus game updates, automatically reloaded) by:

1) Please do Settings | System Settings | Storage

2) Move over any hard drive or memory unit (not the Cloud) & press (Y) on your controller & pick Clear System Cache.

3) When asked to confirm storage device maintenance, choose Yes.

* Re-download *

4) Tap the silver Xbox Guide button

5) Select Download Profile (and if you don't see it, press the blue X button to make sure you're not signed in) and proceed with Profile Download.

6) Enter the Microsoft Account addresse for your Xbox LIVE gamertag when asked.

7) Enter the password for the Microsoft Account.

7A) If your account is an Xbox LIVE child account, the parent’s Windows Live ID & password is required as well to download your profile.

8) Pick the storage device for your profile (choose Hard Drive if you have one, or Memory Unit if you don't have a Hard Drive).

9) When the download completes you will be asked if you want the console to remember your password. If it's your home console, I'd say yes, otherwise I'd think carefully about leaving my profile unprotected on somebody else's Xbox!

10) Sign in, and retry.

Well I just played for an hour and didn't get disconnected but when I went back to the dashboard I lost access to most Live features again so it may be a partial cure.  Can't confirm until I get disconnected, obviously.

Hi Satsuma! If you wouldn't mind checking your connection speed at speedtest.net and replying back with the details on that, that would be great. Thanks!
