360 slim louder with newer games

I've been noticing more and more that my slim makes a decent amount of noise when playing newer games that are installed. The fan often seems seems to speed up, and its low hum becomes much more audible. I've popped in some older titles, and the console remains relatively quiet while playing those. Do newer titles just make the 360 work harder due to better graphics and other factors?

I have the same question.  Our system can sound like it is going to take flight at times!  CALL OF DUTY GAMES tend to kick the fans into overdrive.  I am curious if this is a problem or if it is normal.

You should both separate out your components to determine which is "noisy".

Power supply fan

Console fan, just below the grating on the top/side.

DVD drive

If the power supply is in an enclosed space, the fan may spin up a bit if it gets warm. It's gotta be a 40mm or 50mm fan to fit in the housing. Those can be quite loud. People have reported getting power bricks with very loud fans.

The console fan should vary speed depending on CGPU load, though I have yet to hear mine get loud.

The DVD drive's acoustics vary per game. Prior to game installs, I recall Halo and Gears of War games being quite loud. Other games, not so much. Unlike the original game install system, the new copy protection scheme does not spin the DVD drive down right away, and it has provisions to spin the drive back up at random intervals. There have been reports that it isn't ever spinning down discs (even on older titles), though I haven't experienced this.

I had the same problem where my 360 would make a loud buzzing sound... I determined it was the fan and sent it in for repair... Now its whisper quiet again... So if its under warranty, I'd recommend sending it in.

The problem is the new disc format (XGD3).

New titles have this disc format and even when installed the disc spins for a few minutes and then stops.

Reads everything from harddrive though.

Really annoying in my opinion.
