360 Keeps shutting off

I've gone thru all of the trouble shooting suggestions and no matter what I do my xbox keeps shutting off. Its a little over a year old and this is the second xbox 360 to crash on me.  I play less than once a week and am at the point where i'm thinking of trying a new system.  I just can't rationalize spending another couple of hundred bucks to have this thing fixed or to buy a new one.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

It might be over-heating. Like a PC, if it detects that its over-heating it will shut down in order to prevent further damage. I recommend contacting Microsoft Xbox Support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX and tell them the issue in order to go to the next step and getting it shipped.

Hey Rock.

It does sound like it may be overheating. Checkout how to find the best location for your Xbox 360 console

I would also make sure your power supply has good ventilation, and isn't covered up too much.

my xbox also shuts off and turns on by itself and it can't be overheating because it wont stay on long enough to overheat.
