2 Months of Gold for $2...or not

I decided to take up the offer on the dashboard seeing as I have some money just sitting in my paypal.  The problem here is that after the purchase, I'm still listed as an Xbox LIVE Free member, not Gold. 

However, under Account Management>Your Memberships, it is listed as Xbox LIVE Gold.  Here on the site it lists me as a Gold Member also and I'm able to send messages as well.  On LIVE I'm still unable to start/join parties, download demos, go into matchmaking, etc.  I signed in and out multiple times but to no avail. Is there a certain period of time until it becomes active?

 

What went wrong here?

Try testing your Xbox LIVE connection on the console and see if that helps.

Thanks for the help Mister Gwyther. I just turned on my Xbox to test my connection and it checks out just fine and it finally says that I am a Gold Member once I signed on (with all the privileges of one as well)  

I'm guessing it took some time to activate properly.

I had the same problem.  While I my web-based account listed me as a Gold member, the Xbox still showed me as Xbox LIVE Free.  I signed in and out, rebooted the console.  Nothing worked.  Then, as suggested here, I performed a test of the network connection (Xbox Dashboard / My Xbox  / System Settings/ Network Settings / <choose network> / Test Xbox LIVE Connection) and after the successful test, wala, my membership status was Gold.  Thanks for the solution, Mister Gwyther!
