1st Round Beta Tester, 10 year Xbox Live Member Calls it quits

Today I have turned the Xbox Live Auto renewal off of my account. I have
finally decided that the Xbox, and Microsoft are not something I want to be a
part of any longer. I have supported the Xbox from the very first day it was
released, I bought one on launch day. I still can remember to this day, the
first time I Put Halo in the system, and playing DOA thinking how much bigger
of an experience this was, and I purposely waited for Xbox to launch not buying
a PS2, with the anticipation the XBOX was going to be bigger (no pun
intended) and badder than the PS2, and it did not disappoint. I even had
loved the giant Duke controller!

Then Xbox live launched, I believe the second year it was out. I signed up for
the Beta as soon as I heard it was going to be available, I remember checking my
email and watching the forums like a hawk, and seeing everyone stir up the
controversy that Microsoft got it wrong, it seemed like they sent the
invitations out to the wrong applicants, but whatever, it all worked itself
out....Ok I'm babbling. As soon as I got my kit (I still have my T-shirt and
orange memory card) I remember thinking this is a gamers dream come
true.....they had match making built in, would match players based on their
skill level......I just dreamt of what this could be come.

Now comes the 360, we now have a gamming system that's in full HD, a new
version of Xbox live that's even Bigger and Badder than the previous version!!
We now have this beautiful interface (blades), Xbox live arcade, it was truly a
next gen system, and I showed this thing off to anyone that came to my house,
and yes, most of my friends ended up getting one as well. But everyone that
bought one could not understand why they should have to pay for xbox live. I
stood my ground and defended this system with tooth and nail, and soon everyone
started to understand why we paid after some great updates (thank you party
chat!) new interfaces, new updates that changed the way we played games.

Here is where Xbox live started to fall apart....there are no more updates
to change the way we play!! We have not received a game changer since Party
chat... We have not received a friends list update to be able to have more than
100 users, we still are not able to manage friends lists or sort them....I mean
whatever else we can dream up. So I really started to think, what am I paying
for at this point....if you compare to their competitors online system, I'm
just paying for party chat????? And the right to pay for other services such as
Netflix?

Here I am, questioning basically my gamming faith, so the best thing to do is
read the bible for answers, so I came to Xbox live <- Bible, maybe I have
missed something here, maybe they have upgraded their service and I just missed
it.... I log in, and see this promo for rewards for long term members, I’m like
great, I've been a member for 10 years, let’s see if I am entitled to
something?? I see a few 10 year vets were rewarded with a new console, ok,
great....lets see if I qualify.....don't see anything about it! Well ok, lets
move on, after reading some more, they only way I get anything is by taking a
survey and renewing my subscription??? <-- straw that broke.....

 With
the new Gen of consoles, this will be my first time not even thinking about
Xbox as my gaming choice. I have literally spent 1000's of dollars and once a
great system (do not regret a cent of it) But I think Microsoft is going down
the wrong direction with their business decisions. Today I read (Pure rumor)
that their next gen system is going to be on line only DRM. If this is true
this is truly a sad time as an Xbox gamer.

 To
anyone that read this, I thank you!

 P.S. I
will double bag my flame suit

DRM is not a bad thing. It will hopefully prevent people who steal games or copy them from playing them on the console. Could affect used games also, which is unfortunate. Used games is big business for retailers.

And yes this could and probably will affect sales of the next console.

I personally don't think paying for LIVE is worth it for me anymore. Really thinking I wont renew once my year is up this time. I mainly game on PC now anyway. And I can play games online on my PS3 and Wii U for free.

He does have a point, I despise the idea that all the games will be download only. So everyone who has built a business on selling game consoles and games is now up PooPOO creek because they wont have merch to sell. and the heavy hitters like Walmart are going to have the Monopoly. gotta love the swing of this BBD pendulum. I want a physical copy of the game, and if they will not make them, then Im done with Xbox as well

That's a pity...10 years and all you have is that t-shirt and a usb stick? think of all the other cool swag you got that you're forgetting like the posters, free dlc and all the cool people you've met in the various games. If you're giving up because you didn't get anything worth more than $10...just consider how much cash you probably blew on arcade machines before this and what you got in return for that.
