Xbox Series X USB ports don't work

I have a launch day Xbox Series X, an official Microsoft USB C Play and Charge Kit and Series X controller.

When I connect the controller using the supplied USB C cable to the controller and the front port on the Series X, nothing happens.

  • The controller doesn’t turn on
  • the controller doesn’t vibrate indicating it’s charging
  • the Xbox doesn’t show the charging icon on the top right of the Home Screen.

When I connect the controller and the usb c cable to either of the rear USB ports,

  • the light on the controller doesn’t turn on
  • the Xbox won’t show the charging indicator
  • However, the controller vibrates every four to six seconds indicating it wants to start charging but for some reason doesn’t.

I've tried resetting the Xbox with both the keep games and saves option and the delete everything option, to no avail.

I even tried updating to the latest Insider Delta build to see if maybe software fixes it, but it didn't.

I've reverted to the current production build in the mean time, the problem still persist.

Anyone else have this issue or know what to do? I'm assuming it's just faulty and is going to need replacing.

My front port is working to charge my controller, but the port I've had my external HDD plugged into since launch has suddenly stopped working. Still works when I plug it into the second one on the back, but I get a warning about low power, and to try a different port. Still works in that specific port despite the warning, but the initial port is totally dead. I've got a repair booked with MS as my disc drive is also making horrendeous noises.

That sucks even more than my scenario. I hope you get it sorted.

I’m still waiting for either a golden hint here or my local retailer to restock so I can return and change it.

Disconnect the device from the USB port, and then turn off the console. After 5 to 10 seconds, turn the console back on. After the console has restarted, reconnect the device to the USB port. - I saw this tip and it worked my keyboard wouldn’t work on a back usb but I did this word for word and it worked my keyboard is on again, follow the steps word for word

The plug will only support certain usb chords if I’m not mistaken they’re the ones rated for high data transfer rates. Of course most cellphone charges aren’t compatible.
