XBox One issues with LG TV

Hi there,

I’m having issues with my original Xbox One and new LG LED TV model 49UK6400PLE.

In all HDMI ports the screen is flashing to black then back to Xbox screen every second or so. If i go into Video fidelity and change the setting to 10 bit this temporarily fixes the problem by defaulting back to 8 bit. Next time I switch the TV off it’s flashing again.

I’ve tried various changes to the TV settings on the advice of LG customer support but nothing has worked. I’ve also power cycled the Xbox and overridden the Display to HDMI.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated, thanks.

Hi Birkie,

Thanks for coming to the forums. We recommend trying the troubleshooting for blank or black screen. Also, try another HDMI cable, make sure all are connected firmly.

Thanks,

Brad

Stay safe have fun. GAME HARD just not too hard :) ಠ益ಠ

Hi Brad,

Thanks for the quick response.

I’d actually tried a cable from another dead Xbox One and it was the same but having tried a 3rd cable it now seems to be working!

I’ll keep testing over the next 24 hours and if it’s still working I’ll mark as solved.

Thanks again.

Hi Brad,

Just checked again and the issue is the same with a different HDMI cable.

Cheers.

Hello, on the Xbox in the video output/video mode section check the ycc 4:2:2 setting if it is checked then uncheck it or if it's already unchecked try checking it and see if that helps any also check that Allow HDR10 is checked. You'll also need to ensure that Deep Color is enabled on the HDMI port you have the Xbox connected to in the Tv settings.

Hi there,

My XBox One is the original model not an X or S so these options aren’t available.

Ah ok, if you have deep color enabled in the Tv settings you may as well disable that as your Xbox won't support HDR and having that enabled on the Tv can cause issues. It's also worth checking your Tv has the latest firmware installed.

Yeah, i have that disabled despite LG support telling me it should be on.....

TV has the latest firmware. Maybe it’s a sign I should upgrade to the One X :-)

What output resolution do you have the Xbox set at ?

Did you try resetting the display settings on the Xbox, when you do this it will put the Xbox onto the lowest possible display resolution. You can then check if this black screen issue is still there, if not then try a higher output resolution, 1080p should really be the optimal on your original Xbox.

  1. If there's a disc in the Xbox One console, eject it.
  2. On the console, press and hold the Xbox button  for 10 seconds to turn off the console.
  3. Press and hold the Xbox button  and the Eject button until you hear a beep to turn on the console. You’ll hear one beep right away and a second beep 10 seconds later. The power light will flash on before the second beep. DO NOT LET GO until the second beep occurs.

Note If you have an Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, you’ll need to press and hold the Xboxbutton  and the Bind button instead, as your console does not have an Eject button.

In either case, this will boot your console in low resolution mode (640 × 480). To reset this setting, press the Xbox button  to open the guide. Go to System > Settings > Display & sound > Video output, and then select the resolution you want from the Display dropdown.

It may also be worth doing a full power cycle, with your Xbox powered on press and hold the power button for about 10 second, pull the power cable out of the Xbox once it's powered off and wait a couple of minutes, reconnect the power cord and power the Xbox on again using the power button on the Xbox.

I have it at 1080p and HDMI as opposed to Auto detect although the issue happens either way.

I’ve tried the recommendations above but no luck.

What’s even weirder is some games seem to behave better than others and when I press the home button it stops the flashing with the static menu at the left hand side then restarts when the game is back on. Plus the Netflix and Prime apps kill it completely.

The Tv should have a game mode somewhere in the settings, did you try that at all ?
