XBOX forced update interrupting a game...

Was just in the middle of a World of Tanks match and the xbox jerked me out of the game and forced me to choose between updating or going offline.

This is HORRIBLE customer service.  Clearly they understand that they are screwing peoples'achievements, in game rewards based on stats, etc.

You would think they'd find a better way.  Even my computer gives me a warning screen and a time limit when it needs to update.  It's not like Microsoft can't figure out how to do that.  Looks like Microsoft just doesn't care.  Just one more thing pushing me closer to buying a PS4.

Hi, this is actually a complaint I've seen quite often.  Are you in the Insider Programme?  And if so, do you use it?  If you don't its probably worth while leaving it as it gives a lot of updates.

Not that I am aware of so probably not.  Updates haven't been happening frequently and I usually catch them when I turn on the xbox.  I assumed it was meant to work that way.  I never dreamed they'd be so daft as to ruin someone's game.  In this case, it takes seemingly forever to achieve 3 Mark's of excellence which are derived from the amount of damage you cause.  I got booted at the beginning of a game so the game will treat it as if I caused no damage which will set me back many games worth to catch back up to where I was.  Annoying and totally preventable if Microsoft gave a (Mod Removed-Profanity).

Do you have automatic updates on? Also when a game forces an update like that it's mandatory and that's totally up to the game devs. It's not Microsoft thats doing it. A good thing to do is check for updates first before playing. I do that every day its part of my routine

It wasn't the game.  Xbox was updating itself.  And I had been playing for hours.  If there was an update, I would have seen it when I got on.  It's like they released the update while I was playing and gave me no chance to finish the game.  This isn't on the game I was playing.  This isn't on user error.  This is xbox choosing to force update their own product without giving you the opportunity to finish a game.  Even IF I had auto updates on, it should, AT THE LEAST, give a warning and an option to postpone.  This is (Mod Removed-Profanity).

I agree with this part. Even if auto-updates are on, they should be triggered only when console is not in use, and if console is in use, show a notification similar to we see in Windows 10 PCs.

You would only get the updates you opted in for during the insider program

Turn off automatic updates that way you can decide when to update.

I've already said I'm not a member of the insider program.  This is NOT user error.  Microsoft needs to fix their (Mod Removed-Profanity).

Auto updates are off.  Even if they weren't, it shouldn't pull you out of an ongoing game.  That's ridiculous.

Hello Razor,

You may want to consider turning on the auto update feature and the instant on feature. That way your console can update while its in sleep mode. If this is not something you'd like as a solution, you can try updating the console as the updates roll out. This most recent update rolled out on the 12th of February, although it isn't mandatory right away. Without Auto updates on, the system will force the update on you once it becomes mandatory. News on updates can be found on News.Xbox.com

I apologize for the inconvenience, but Instant on + auto updates may save you from future frustration.

Hope this helps!

Happy Gaming!
