XBOX DVD playback kit

You would need the Xbox DVD Playback kit to play DVDs on the Orginial Xbox System.

If you're talking about the original XBOX that was made back in 2001 then you'd need the DVD Playback Kit which unlocks the functionality of the XBOX to play DVD's. It doesn't however have anything to do with playing newer XBOX games. It's just for playing DVD's in the XBOX.

I cannot find any sort of information about any sort of patch that allowed you to do this without the DVD Playback Kit.

I was lookign around on the internet for links to information you would need, and these will inform you on what is needed to play movies on your original xbox. I will comment and say that BlueNoseBear was correct on you will need a kit in order to allow you to play movies on it.

Also just noticed Hassassinade suggestion he is absolutely right, as that is the exact kit I have and it works well too.

The DVD kit is how one pays for that license. There were four distinct kits made, one for each DVD region that was supported. Two regions received no support. Microsoft has a support article that details this.
