Xbox 360 suddenly says Network Failed, Internet Blocked

I've been using my wireless Xbox 360 for well over a year with no connection issues. Now out of the blue, it can't connect to the network (failed) and says the internet is blocked (signal strength is 100%). I've checked two other Xbox 360's in the house and the same issue. I've followed the troubleshooting suggestions about resetting/rebooting, etc and contacted our internet provided (they say the connection into the house is fine), but they still won't connect. Other wireless devices in the house work fine (cell phones, computer), it just seems to be the Xboxes that have been kicked off. Nothing has changed from one day to the next - worked fine on Thursday, won't connect on Friday. Any suggestions?

Hi there Idaho,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear about the issue with the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.

I recommend to try the following articles: "I'm getting randomly disconnected from Xbox Live" and

How to configure wireless network settings on your Xbox 360 console.

Try this and let us know the results.

Thanks for being a part of the Xbox Family.

Is it possible that you are in a country where the government censors access to some parts of the internet?

While your provider says that the connection to the house is fine, and you are able to use the internet, it might be that a government firewall is blocking access to Xbox Live.

When you do a connection test in the Xbox 360 network settings, at what point is the connection failing? Does the console connect to the internet but not Xbox Live, or is the internet connection itself already blocked?

When you are in the network settings, can you enter the following button combination:

LT RT RT LT RB LB

Then let the console do a traceroute to Xbox Live.

Can you show us the results of that Traceroute?

Hi!

Probably the console is not able to successfully connect to the router. Try changing your network settings and entering a static IP on the console: System->Network Settings->Wireless Network->Configure Network->Manual Settings

Have you tried factory resetting the router or clearing the cache on the Xbox itself ?

Thanks for the response. Haven't had a problem with any of the xboxes up until that day. No censorship issues. It fails trying to connect to the internet. This list says Internet failed, all the rest say blocked. I tried the Traceroute - it times out after 8 seconds saying the "DNS server did not respond within a reasonable time".

Thanks for the response. Tried changing the network connections to a static IP. When checking the router/modem, it saw the device that time, but it still fails when trying to connect to it. It doesn't see any of the devices with the automatic IP option.

Hi there,

I suggest restoring the network settings on the console to factory defaults and re-connecting to your network from the beginning.

Go to your Network Settings and select the network you are trying to connect to. Then select Configure network and on the following page go over to Additional Settings. From there, Restore to Factory Defaults should be the last option, select that and go through the process of re-entering your network information and try re-connecting.

Let us know the results of restoring the network settings to default and re-connecting.

Thanks for your response. I've tried that, multiple times, on two different xboxes and it still fails when trying to connect to the network.

Hi there,

Ok thank you for keeping us updated. Since you say that two different Xboxs failed to connect to the network, then it's possible that the router has a firewall blocking the Xboxs or the router just needs to open another network port to allow the console's better access to the network. This is called port forwarding and will need to be configured through your router settings.

Take a look at this support article for the 4 ports that you should open for Xbox Live and then I'll also provide a port forward website that will guide you through the process depending on what router you have.

I hope this helps!

Best Wishes,
Diego
