Hello there,
Thanks for keeping us updated. You are going to want to plug into the USB 3.0 port. Our support website doesn't specify whether the wireless adapter functions better on 3.0 or 2.0. However, if a 3.0 device is plugged into a 2.0 port, the device would still work but speed and power benefits will not be fully realized.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
Any of those ports would work fine, except your USB C port as this is a different connector.
To be honest, I doubt the bandwidth requirement would be high enough to require the use of only USB 3 ports. It should work on a USB 2 without any issues.

Thanks Chirs. I followed the two methods shown below to pair the Elite Wireless Controller. However, it does not show up under Windows 10. What shall I do? By "push the button on the Xbox Wireless Adapter", do they mean pressing the end of the usb adpater? My adapter is the smaller black version.

Hi Lance, I know what happened. I think there is a missing part on the manual. It did not mention that the user has to press the big xbox button to turn on the controller first before pressing the button at the back of the usb adapter. Then, the small button at the front of the controller. Now pairing is fine.
One strange thing is that before I found this missing part, even I plugged the adapter into a usb 3.1 gen 2 port, Windows 10 could not recognize it. After I unplugged it and plugged the adapter to the next port, Windows 10 recognized the adapter. Then, I followed the steps in the paragraph above. Do you know why Windows 10 could not recognize the adapter when I plugged it in the first usb 3.1 gen 2 port?

Hi there!
Have you tried to plug it back into the first port that was not detecting the adapter to see if it still isn't detecting it? If you are referring to the ports labeled as number 8 on the figure, then the ports right next to each other are the same USB 3.1 gen 2 port. It's possible that port just needs a restart of the PC to detect devices. Have you tried plugging in any other device in the same port to test if it recognizes any other device?

workstationuser,
Glad you've been able to finally pair it. I wanted to share with you my experience. I use an Xbox wireless adapter with windows 10, as well. I have used it in the 3.0 and the 2.0 ports and have seen no difference in performance. In terms of Latency (delay), there is little to none when I use the USB 2.0 port.
Lastly, to turn off your controller after you're done using it, you can either hold the big glowing Xbox button on the controller for 10 seconds till it turns off. Or, the controller will turn off when you shut down your computer, as well.
Let us know if you have any further issues!
