USB headset compatibility on Xbox One

Why, in today's modern gaming age, does Microsoft insist on not properly supporting USB headsets on their consoles?  The existing setup is clunky and ridiculously old fashioned.  In 2019, you should at least be offering full USB & BT support.

And please don't reply with the scripted auto response that Microsoft's closed system could not use additional drivers to support USB headsets.  That would just be insulting!  Sony has included working USB headset support on their PS4 console for as long as I can remember.

Microsoft, sort this out!

Well usb headsets ate supported and bluetooth headsets too as long as it conforms to gaming standards

Or do you mean non gaming headsets

You do realize there is a reason for that right?

Latency on generic headsets is 100ms which is eons in gaming ad2p isnt meant for high bandwidth and crosstalk how often do you have people in the same 25 feet with bluetooth

Crosstalk happens when.you have too many bluetooths in the same field

Hence why you actually need dedicated adapters with their own bands

Usb headsets have to have drivers written by the manufacturer not xbox or anyone else

Its propietary technology you do realize that right?

Dedicated headsets support.upto 4 headsets in the same area without crosstalk

If yoi google it its quite a known problem

And dispite your post

You can actually get the same support with adapters amazon is a common place to find one if you really want to risk cross talk and the latency that comes with it

Dont come back complaining about your teammates when they complain that you are lagging while you are talking

Your usb support you speak of on the ps4 is for offically supported ones or adapter which case you need to deal with the latency

Console.games do support local multiplayer are yoi sure you want 100ms and cross talk while you are in a match?

100ms is like 2 respawns pretty sure your team members will boot you for not talking

Ad2p or the protocols for bluetooth isnt meant for gaming or for multiple devices

Ask the people in nathan philips square what happens when you get cross talk 100k people couldnt call or stream during the raptors celebrations as the towers were overloaded and too many phones interfering with each other

You can also google search or use forums search as this is mentioned many times

These arent autoscript

These are FACTS

Ask your headset provider why you cant use a bluetooth without crosstalk the answer will blow away your theories

Usb headsets are supported as long as they have the proper  compatibility. I use a RIG 800LX  its usb and wireless. If the headset isnt a gaming headset it may not work correctly.

Usb is supported, but perhaps with more information we can support you further. Is there a particular headset you're having issues with?

WOW, so many Ambassador replies to my post, yet none seem to understand my concerns.  Why would I want to use an adaptor?  The Xbox One X has 3 USB ports…  Why?  Microsoft offers USB HDD support and amazingly has even started offering keyboard and mouse support.  Why can they not offer USB headset support via the USB port? Yes, I agree that some, probably most, Xbox gamers play on their sofa and connecting the headset directly to the controller is a great convenience.

What happens if I want to use a different peripheral, like a gaming wheel?  The Xbox supports my Thrustmaster TMX but if I want to be able to chat with my friends, I’m forced to connect my headset to a separate controller.  Hence my comment about this being “clunky”.

Being forced to connect a headset to the controller is not ideal for all users/situations.  My “Gaming” headset works perfectly on both the PC and PS4.  I have no interesting in using an adaptor as I do not want to connect it to the controller.  This method is both uncomfortable and unnecessary as my Xbox sits 2 feet away on my desk.

Are you telling me that Microsoft’s Windows OS and Sony’s OS for the PS4 is better than Xbox’s?  Oh dear!

You are not forced to conect a headset to a controller. Wired headsets conect to a controller but wireless like the ones I have (turtle beach and Astro) conect via USB and Optical cable to the console and have a docking base that transmits to them. There are other wireless headsets available also.

Again as i said, if you provided a bit more info than just "a usb headset" we might be able to help you better, rather than just being rather confrontational

I don't mean to be confrontational and I apologise but I'm not too keen on being patronised. What "gaming standards" would these be?  Microsoft's? I'm the first to admit I don't know everything but I'm pretty sure this is a Microsoft term for "spend more money".

I admit my KLIM puma headset is described as compatible with PC, PS4 and Switch. Why no Xbox support? This is most likely due to 3rd party companies (like KLIM) not having the cash to use Microsoft's licensed "gaming standard".  Some could argue this is anti-consumer but that might also be seen as confrontational.

One easy way for Microsoft to resolve this issue is to open up their gaming standard, so that gamers could use their consoles the way they want with peripherals they already own.  I don't think this is too much to ask.

Just out of curiosity, is there a list of supported headsets that work when directly plugged into the USB port?

The only ones that plug into a USB port are the Wireless type, that use the USB to power a base station and S/PDIF cable for audio input to the base station.
