When I save Starfield on my Desktop PC, and then go to my Laptop, I get the following error; 'Your other device is taking a long time to sync to the cloud.' I lost 4 hours of Starfield progress on my game because of this.... ****?

I have the same issue, but then between an Xbox Series S and my pc. There seems to be something wrong with the pc not detecting whether the saves have synced properly.

I had the same problem playing exclusively on xCloud, several hours lost. The game hanged and when I started it again it seems the previous instance was still running and it wasn't able to synchronize.

I found a solution to this issue. I had the same problem when playing on my steam deck and then switching to my PC. I tried restarting my PC and it solved the problem.

I had a similar problem : I was playing on xbox but when switching on PC my saves wouldn't sync (when opening the game with Xbox app).
Here is the solution that worked for me to get the saves on the PC :
On your PC, open Task manager
Go to "Services"
Look for "GamingServices" in the list (not Gamingservicesnet)
Right click and manually restart this service
After that, open Starfield. If you get stuck on the opening screen at "Syncing data" step, do the following :
Close the game window
Open Task manager and go to "Details" tab
Find "gamingservices.exe", right click on it, and End task
Open Starfield again, and it should sync and open
I hope it will work for you ;)

All I did to fix mine was do a forced save and then sync the save data. It seems to not be syncing the autosave data. Try that, hope it helps.

when i do this trick ( restarting service & closing process from task manager ) the game wont start anymore and then i have to reinstall from scratch ( 140gb download which takes forever ), killing the process seems to cause issues to the service
for me this started when i used the cloud version it seems to make the data incompatible with microsoft store pc version
cloud and xbox continue working without issues but on pc gets stuck on syncing data (stays at 0%)
then i did this workaround (twice now) and now syncing window opens and close right away and launcher does not do anything
hoping there is a fix released soon...
*** UPDATE ***
found a fix, open powershell as admin and run this command:
Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | remove-appxpackage -allusers
then open XBOX app it will require to reinstall game services and then starfierld can be launched and now syncs!
