Original xbox one crashes on offline update by 58% and won't boot

Hi Henri,

Thanks for reaching out to us in the forums for this issue with your original Xbox One console. As you're experiencing difficulties in getting your console to accept the offline update, I would recommend that you perform a factory reset to the console, if you haven't already done so. I had a similar issue myself recently (it got to 92% and quit) doing an offline update and once I fully reset the console, I was able to get the console to accept it.

How to reset your console to factory defaults on Xbox One

I would recommend attempting the reset that allows you to keep your games and apps first; however, if the update fails once again, it would be worth it to select to "Reset and remove everything". The factory reset of the console (either one) removes potentially damaging files off of the OS that could be corrupting your update.

Before resetting your console make sure of the following:

  • There is a stable network connection.

  • The information for all profiles is known (email and passwords)

If you're having issues getting the console to boot up initially, you may wish to power cycle the console fully (disconnecting the power supply brick and unplugging it) for about 2 full minutes before attempting to bring up the troubleshooting screen (directions included in our Xbox One System Update Solution) to attempt the reset or apply the offline update. Additionally, if you have an external HD, please be sure to remove its connection from the console prior to any troubleshooting you do.

Give this a try and let us know the results.

I hope that this helps you out and will be crossing my fingers for you!

Hello my dear friend! Thanks for the help and the crowd. I've tried resetting several times both keeping and erasing everything; however, it didn't work out. I disconnected the source, waited, try to force the offline update, but always hangs at 58%. I am hopeless.

Hey there HenriGamer04

Thanks for reaching out to the Forums for advice on what to do if you're unable to complete the offline update.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this inconvenience. If the previously posted troubleshooting did not do the trick, it would seem that the console is in need of service.

If your console is in warranty, you should be able to created a warranty repair order for free at device support but if not, it might be best to contact customer support to have an agent outline your options directly.

Thanks!

Hi; I have a service ticket open and am due to send my console in (XB 1x) but I'm told to do a factory reset before I send it in and I SIMPLY CANNOT DO IT.  I've tried via console and via the USB and it crashes at about halfway.  Once I got it to 92% then I got the 'something went wrong' screen and tried to restart it but no dice.   I've gone through each suggestion step by step for both hard factory reset via console as well as via USB and neither work.  This is supremely frustrating because I do not want any of my profile info to be on there when I send it in.  What can I do?
