Multiplayer Games Are Too Team Oriented these Days

Goldeneye 007 for the N64. Halo (although I hate to admit it)... and most fighters in general. I've had the most fun playing one-on-one of Free-For-All multiplayer games. Team play is fun for a bit, but it seems these days that all the big AAA shooters and some fighters even, are just focused on team play. Some games like Battlefield don't even have a solo multiplayer mode at all, lol.

Team play and FFA play are different. One isn't "better" than the other, but most people like one over the other anyhow. I like being part of something to achieve victory, but it also feels good to show one's prowess when its you against the world.--Or in a 1-on-1 duel. Gamers these days get too scared if there isn't a mode that allows you to linger in the back and camp.

If I play online which is seldom, I prefer "every man for himself" kind of gameplay. I did have fun on Black OPs zombies with the same 3 players for a month or 2.

I thought OP was talking about online co-op gameplay, which is staring to feel as overused as "modern/near future" settings in FPS games...

I never liked free for all game modes, so I wouldn't know. I've always enjoyed being someone's '6'.

Most gamers don't differentiate between team/strategy based and rambo FFA games, they play how they want regardless so I don't think it really matters.

I play free for all no matter what I play. Halo team deathmatch. Those other guys are overshields that I grenade outta the way to get my kill. Capture the flag? I'm playing free for all. Bomb? free for all. Free for all? Ugh..

This is why I hate call of duty. I'm not a stick with your team guy. I die. So therefore, I must blame the game!

And? I like team-based games. Mostly because I'm not the best at fighting myself, but fighting with a team comes in handy. Lots of games actually have the choice between free-for-all and a team, too. Just playing with a team is much more fun in my opinion.

Is the most "easy" MP mode ... that's why is the most required in games for "competitive" gamers IMO like the obsessive  co-op request in games . Sincerely , i am yet to find a real Team Based mode , at the end is only a Team vs Team  or enemies mode.

lol

Everyone has their own preferences on how they play their games, but I am the complete opposite of you.

I wouldn't be playing ANY online based MP if it weren't for the TEAM play.

In fact, I only play the MP games that have a PARTY system implemented so that I gather my friends & begin playing with them, NOT against them.

Yeah, Goldeneye 007 was my first step into Multiplayer, but I would still play 2v2.  And Halo 1, all the LAN parties I had going we always had teams.

I too like Isaac said have never really liked free for all game modes. I'd rather play a team orientated game, even though the amount of idiots out there can make it difficult unless playing with a good group of friends.
