Minecraft: privacy settings prevent others joining world

Out of the box we managed to get our kids playing online with friends they had invited, Then decided I would change them from 'adult' to 'child' in privacy settings as it was more appropriate - that stopped their friends from being able to join their world though. So relaxed the setting to 'teenager' - friends still can't join their world. So set it back to 'adult' for ALL live accounts on our Xbox - still friends can't join their world. Is that now the end of my kids being able to play any games online? I've noticed that all games on our Xbox are now saying 'Privacy settings may prevent...' I can't see any other settings that are likely to be blocking it. Is there a way to factory reset the box? I've tried the usual turn it off and on again too but makes no difference. Or should I take it back to the retailer for a refund / exchange for a new one?

The best thing you can try to do is look in the settings of your console, I believe there is a way to factory reset the console. Also, your XBOX Gold Membership may have expired. I don't recommend taking it back to the retailer, for there should be a way to fix the problem without buying a new console.

In the top right of Xbox.com click "My Account" then click Privacy and Online Settings.

Set everything to ALLOWED/EVERYONE. You should also be able to find similar options on your console if you prefer to do it there.

Switching to the pre-defined options may not have updated everything properly.

Also, have your children's friends host a game and see if they can connect to their friends instead.

The host settings in MINECRAFT may have changed as well. I would check those as well as they can limit who can join a game and what others can do in your game.

Like outsider has said, check the settings in Minecraft. When you select a world you have an option of ticking 'online world'. If this is not ticked then effectively you are playing offline and no-one can join you, even if you invite them or not.

Once this is ticked people should be able to join their world.

I had the same issue.  I want to restrict my child's play to just with "friends" along with all other viewable content but when I select "child" or "teen" or even try to customize the security, he cannot join friends' games even though the settings are set to join "friends" only.  The adult selection seems to be the only one that will connect.  Any resolution to allow for restrictions only for friends to see information?
