Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 crashing with joystick plugged in

Hi,

I have a problem with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (downloaded via GamePass) crashing on me with my Joystick plugged in.

The joystick is Cobra PRO Flight CF2290, nothing of a known make, but it works with War Thunder.

I have Cobra's software installed, Windows is fully updated so as MSFS2020.

When the joystick is plugged in before MSFS2020 startup it loads me to black screen BEFORE showing Xbox logo and crashes.

When the joystick is plugged in with MSFS2020 running it stops and crashes on me.

I checked Event Viewer and everytime the game crashes it prompts that error:

I tried doing everything with the DINPUT8.dll file but with no success.

Am I doing something wrong here or is there a problem I cannot fix myself?

Thank you in advance for any help!

SOLUTION

Hello again.

@Rel - MSFT thanks for nothing I guess. After your reply i almost gave up and put the controlled on a side, but yesterday I figured out the solution to my problem.

Game doesn't CTD anymore and everything works perfectly, here is how I did it:

Conditions:

(I am using Windows 10 Pro, but I think it'll work on Windows 11 too)

1. Game closed

2. Joystick plugged in (with or without the throttle attached)

How to:

1. Enter Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers - here your Cobra PRO Flight should be recognized as "PC Flight Simulator";

2. Right click on "PC Flight Simulator" - here you can see that the controller has some settings for Gamepad Device but also for Mouse Device and Keyboard Device;

My solution is to delete the Mouse and Keybord Device tabs.

3. Right click on "PC Flight Simulator" > Properties > Hardware;

Here you do the same for HID-compliant Mouse and for HID-compliant keyboard.

4. Click HID-compliant Mouse/Keyboard > Properties > Change Settings (with Admin priviliges mark) > Driver > Uninstall Driver;

Do the same thing to both Keyboard and Mouse HID-compliant devices.

After refreshing Devices and Printers tab in Control Panel your PC Flight Simulator device should change icon to a Gamepad, and after right-clicking it you should only see Gamepad Settings option.

Now you MSFS2020 should launch without CTD.

flight simulator so far it's a variety of peripherals but not that one, which is likely the root cause of your issue
