Is the XBox one Disc drive Failure overblown?

I seem to read a whole lot about Disc drive failures on this forum yet iv'e never experienced one or known someone who had one.   How widespread does everyone think this actually is?

I don't know anyone out of the many I know with the X1 to have had this problem. Definitely overblown

I got Xbox One at Christmas, and have played everyday.

The disk drive error has happened to me 4-5 times already.

i barely use the disc drive, only for blu rays, but its working fine. I haven't personally heard of anyone with a failure and i have some 100 friends on my FLs. I don't think the issue is bad

No it is a big issue as i am on my 3rd console and when you spend over $500 you expect it to work for more than a year and now i am on my 3rd in a year time , also 65% of x1 owners  i know have had to send theres in for repair and its all related to the disk drive . There are other issues also like live always having issues , gamer pics not loading the friends home page does not load always , install times are horrible and why the x1 feels like itis its own service like on the 360 you cant see x1 achivments just the sum total and even on this site on your profile it only shows the last games you played for 360 games not x1 games  . I lol at that because the other company does it right with everything conected across all platforms even there handhelds but i think xbox is trying to do more then they can handle that why there the jack of all trades but master of none and down right bad at some .

I will game until day i die , your never to old to game

ok i must just be unlucky yeah right....i had an xbox one had 3 drives in it all 3 failed within a year and a half....my xbox one x has been in for warranty repair twice because of disc drive failure and now its out of warranty and the drive has gone again ms want 188 pounds and 19 pence to repair yeah right drives r 30 quid off ebay and they are a doddle to fit few screws and two wires to solder....i know why the drives fail because microsoft went to phillips lite on and said they wanted millions of the cheapest drive they could possibly make and phillips lite on had a meeting of how to make the cheapest possible drive cutting corners left right and centre....you end up with a product that works but wont last {thats even more drives needed in spares}....plus you cant upgrade the drive to something better cause its married to the motherboard in xbox so u have to buy another [Mod Removed - see Guidelines] phillips lite on drive....this isnt reflected in the price microsoft charge for the xbox its a disgrace.

Hi,

Still have my Xbox One Day one with Kinect , Xbox One S since more than 2 years and Xbox one X scorpion without any disc drive failure...

Now on forums, you will see more "complains" that a "my Xbox works fine since 201x…"

I think it is the luck of the draw. Anyone can have a disc drive issue and it depends how it came about which some people fail to be honest about.
