I am unable to enable Dolby Atmos for Headphones on my Xbox one

I am unable  to enable Dolby Atmos for Headphones on my Xbox one.

It looks like Dolby Access not detecting the type/model of the connected Headset (Astro A50 Wireless Headset Gen 3) and as a result does not enable the “setting” page where I can adjust the EQ values. Any fix known?

I have checked and confirm the following:

  1. The connected Headset device (Astro A50 Gen 3 Wireless Head-set) Supports Dolby Atmos. And is functioning OK when connected to my Console

  2. I have configured all the properties required for the device via Xbox “Setting>general>volume & audio out-put” page

  3. All the software applications (Xbox, Astro A50, Dolby Access), are up-to-date

Hello, I'm Felipe and I'm an independent Community Advisor, and I'll do my best to help you.

If you have already confirmed that your headset device supports Dolby Atmos and have configured the audio settings on your Xbox, here are a few more steps you can try to enable Dolby Atmos for Headphones on your Xbox One:

Check if you have an active Dolby Atmos license: To enable Dolby Atmos for Headphones, you need an active Dolby Atmos license. To check if you have an active license, go to the Microsoft Store on your Xbox One, search for "Dolby Access," and check if it says "Owned" next to the app. If it doesn't, you may need to purchase the app to get the license.

Install and setup the Dolby Access App: If you have an active Dolby Atmos license, make sure that you have downloaded and installed the Dolby Access app on your Xbox One. Once the app is installed, launch it and follow the instructions to set up Dolby Atmos for Headphones.

Hi Felipe,

Thanks for a prompt response.

  1. I have an active Dolby Atmos license

  2. Launching Dolby Access on Xbox brings me to a page where I have to select one of three “anonymous” type of connection: usb/wireless, Controller, HDMI/Optical audio Device.

  3. However, launching Dolby Access on PC (with the Same Astro A50 connected to it) brings me to a similar page, but this time Astro A50 type is clearly one of the options. Astro headset is also the option you see and select in “manage audio devices” page of the pc

  4. Shortly, if Dolby Access can’t detects the Device type connected it should initiate some kind of an error massage and not by pass the issue, let you finish the setting saying: “Dolby Atmos for Headphone ready to use” and then, going into the app “setting page and realize it’s not enabled

Hello Amos,

Unfortunately, there's nothing more I can help, with since this is a known issue and only Microsoft support can fix this.

Hi, im having an issue where I have purchased/owned the Dolby Atmos for Headphones on Dolby Access since 2020, and for some reason its saying that i dont have a license. If i click “buy” it also tells me that i already own it- takes me to settings to enable Dolby Atmos for Headphones, then tells me again that i dont have a license. The cycle repeats itself. Ive tried restarting my xbox and hard resetting it, but nothing works..

Same here it's telling me I need a license even though I have been owning the license since 2020. Every thing was going good until today happened.

Guys I literally just did a factory reset and it didn't do anything, I'm freaking out right now. I have a Series X, my license was definitely valid, it randomly shut off while I was watching a video on YouTube and I could hear the difference between the sound. It's got me locked in this Windows Sonic only nonsense, DTS and Dolby Atmos format will not work bc I get the error code 0x80bd0037! It claims I don't have licenses, and to buy one. But then when I go to buy one, it says that I already have it and can't buy it. Aside from factory resetting, what specifically did you do? Did you erase everything or did you keep your game saves? I just need to know how this could have possibly worked for some people and not for others you know? I really depend on these headphones & Dolby Atmos for everything I use the Xbox for. I REALLY can't handle this staying broken. Please lmk if you have any advice.

Thanks 🙏

I’m having the same issue as of yesterday. Could be an app/Xbox related issue. Hopefully gets fixed soon.
