I'm guessing you are one of the very few people who still has any kind of HD DVD collection around and it's probably not worth it for Microsoft to spend time and money on the code to support the 360 HD DVD drive if they haven't done it since the XBO released.

Easiest way is probably to buy a cheap 360 and hook it up to that. 

I still have my 360 hddvd player, but the number of people who would want it on the Xbox one is probably very small. 

If I want to use it I'll just bring it the 360 to hook it up.

It's not just a matter of codecs, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD use different laser wavelengths. 

They would need to add hardware to read HD-DVD.

Not just that but it requires completely different hardware (lazer ) hd dvd and bluray werent capatible with each other the lazer lengths were different 

They were both backwards comaptible but not cross compatible otherwise the standards wars would.be still on

You cant stick a hddvd disc in a bluray player no matter how much money you throw at it

You can connect your 360 to your One in settings. 

You can make the Xbox One see the 360 as a TV box like a chrome cast or a Set top box. You just need a HDMI cable to connect the consoles together. 

On the Xbox One Go into Settings.

TV and One guide.

Cable or Satellite box.

Follow the steps. 

Now you can view your Xbox 360 dashboard on your One via the HDMI cable.

I hear you loud and clear.  I just want to plug in my 360 HD DVD player to my One and have it play my old HD DVDs too.

I've heard that people have gotten it working on Windows.  Xbox One has the ability to run certain Windows 10 apps.  Now, my thought is, I wonder how difficult it would be to make a player that works on Windows 10 and Xbox One?

I don't know if Xbox One limits interfacing with USB plug and play devices.  My guess would be they probably do as a matter of security.  I don't know if you can write a driver for an external device and run it on an Xbox One from an "HD DVD Player" app.

I whole-heartedly agree with you, and would also love to see Microsoft include 360 HD DVD support on the One.  It would be an awesome Easter egg for Xbox loyalists and a big milestone in their backwards compatibility movement (which I just love, btw.)
