Does the Xbox 360 support 1080p or not?

Hi, my name is Anthony (aka MiamiHeatFan77) and I thought I saw on a forum on the internet that the Xbox 360 does not support 1080p HD. Only 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i. Is this true? I would like to know. Thank you.

The XBOX 360 does support full HD in 1080p.  May I ask which forum you saw this in?  The only way to get the full 1080p experience is by using an HDMI cable to connect your XBOX 360 to your television. The HDMI cable will transmit both audio and video through one cord, so there is no need to match colors ever again. Before buying the HDMI cable, make sure your television supports 1080p so that you do not have to go through the trouble if it does not work.

Whatever forum you saw this in was actually incorrect.  The XBOX 360 is a much different experience when switching to 1080p and I love it. I use to have a TV that did not take 1080p, but now that I do, I never want to go back. I hope this helps.
Is this true?
No, it's not true. The 360 support 1080p output.

You may have read that most games do not render internally at 1080p. They rely on the 360's scaler to scale the output to 1080p.
The only way to get the full 1080p experience is by using an HDMI cable to connect your XBOX 360 to your television.
The 360 supports 1080p in games over Component and VGA in addition to HDMI. There are some restrictions over Component for video, though not VGA.
The XBOX 360 is a much different experience when switching to 1080p
Not especially. The Dashboard widgets aren't particular high resolution. Most games internally render at 720p or below.

My xbox I know for sure Does not support 1080p but does support 1080i which is interlaced. It was an issue when the PS3 and the Xbox first came out. But most games back then didn't even have a 1080p setting.
My xbox I know for sure Does not support 1080p
All up to date 360s support 1080p. It was added with the October 31, 2006, dashboard update.

You may not see 1080p in the list if you have Display Discovery enabled and connect to a non-1080p device.

My console puts out 1080p via HDMI.

My component cables only seem to do 720p.

.

I say this just to throw my personal experience on the matter into this.

a lot of games DO NOT RUN at 1080P ,  it leaves it up to the console hardware to upscale the resoultion to the desired settings.
a lot of games DO NOT RUN at 1080P
That's not the question. The question is if the console supports 1080p. It does.
it leaves it up to the console hardware to upscale the resoultion to the desired settings.
And that's a strength of the 360. Unlike certain other consoles, you can set the resolution on the 360 and forget it. The hardware takes care of scaling final output to whatever the console is set to.

but it was not really designed to run at 1080p,  it was not even a option when xbox first came out,  nothing on xbox live video or games run at 1080P ,  720P is most and xbox upscales it but not native,  like if u put 1080P video in xbox,  it will downscale it to run through the cpu/gpu for more speed then it will upscale it in the video output
but it was not really designed to run at 1080p,
What, the scaler? Scaling's done by dedicated resources in the GPU. Because it didn't ship with the feature doesn't mean it wasn't considered during design.
nothing on xbox live video or games run at 1080P
Untrue. There are many 1080p videos on many of the 360's video services. I own Archer on Zune/XBOX Video. Those episodes are 1080p on the 360. Ever try to read the label on a bottle of Formula K at 720p and then at 1080p? Big difference..
720P is most and xbox upscales it but not native,
The 360 can output a 1080p signal. What the source material was is of little consequence.
like if u put 1080P video in xbox,  it will downscale it to run through the cpu/gpu for more speed then it will upscale it in the video output
This is gibberish.

i just sayin , if it was a true 1080P movie , with surround sound the movie could take up to 20gb or more,  so they still do compress 1080p,  but its less of compression then 720p , anyway u look at it,  games have to do the same thing,  if not they then would take up to much space.  Games would easily be but on 2 to 3 discs, The GPU does take care of scaling but ATI did not even think it had to run more then 720P,  even for video decoding,  it was even before they came out with ATI Avivo HD tech to make 1080p and HD video look better,  i think that came out with the ATI x1000 series which was like 2006.
