crackling/popping sound coming from console (even while turned off: instant on mode)

Hi I have this unnerving sound coming from my brand new xbox one console (not connect or tv). It sounds like a crackle almost like a very loose piece of plastic bouncing around on a spinning disc (ie maybe hard drive) but sound occurs at all times except when playing a disc-based game. When in the home screen or watching tv, or even just when the console is off for hours on end it is making this terrible noise, its not so loud that it sounds like a grind but loud enough and persistent enough that i don't believe it to be a natural thing with the xbox one seeing as how my friends one is constantly quiet. Please someone tell me its not just me because as of right now i have found no information on the web.

I have the same issue. It kind of sounds like a noisy old computer while it is loading......I don't know if I should take it back or not.

Same here. Called support and they said that as long as it wasn't buzzing it "isn't an issue". I was old to return it to the place I bought it (Amazon). I really don't want to wait for a new one.

I did notice that it only started after I downloaded the day 1 update.

exactly like that. Even after turned off. But for some reason it goes away when playing a disc. And yes only after the update did it start.

Yes, I had this issue. I assume my console is faulty and I'm going to ask for a replacement when the phone lines open tomorrow. The crackling seems to be coming from the right side. It sounds like it's either a faulty hard drive or static bouncing around inside the console.

Definitely a fault though.

edit: my issue ALSO only started happening after the update (after it rebooted after the download). Very strange. Could be a firmware issue, or could just be that it takes a few minutes to build up.

I have the exact same problem and it started as soon as the console rebooted after the update.
