“Connect to the Xbox network”

Out of the blue, whenever I turn on my Xbox Series S, it says ‘Connect to Xbox network’. When I go to network settings, it says I’m connected to my router, that my NAT type is open, then underneath ‘The following services are experiencing issues:’ then blank - it doesn’t name the issues. When I test network connection, it says ‘your console is connected to the internet’.

To be able to actually use my Xbox, I’ve been having to reset it and when setting it up again, connect to my mobile hotspot at first, because when I connect to my router, it says there is an issue and it can’t find any updates. When I finish the set up, I can then switch from my hotspot to my router connection. However, when I jump on another night, we’re back to square one and I need to ‘Connect to the Xbox network’ - this isn’t sustainable for me, I can’t reset my Xbox every time I want to play. That’s just absolutely ridiculous.

I’ve also tried a variety of troubleshooting steps, none of which have worked. These include:

-Unplug and also reset my router

-every step in this answer (I’ll not bother retyping): https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/all/xbox-one-x-never-connects-to-xbox-live-on-start-up/d7fe744e-b656-4718-82de-6370e61b5ea5

Frankly I feel like I’m running out of options. Before I ultimately just sell the Xbox because it isn’t worth the hassle - there’s absolutely no way I’m phoning my network provider to do something to my router - I thought I would ask on here as a last attempt to see if there are any other sensible troubleshooting I’ve not done. If not, it looks like a PS5 is on the cards.

Hello gooder player,

Thank you for your contribution to the Microsoft community. Just a reminder, here on community we are not able to double check accounts and devices to check for the possible issue. What we can do here is provide/guide customers with possible troubleshooting steps for the issue.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues connecting to the Xbox network. Based on the information you provided, it seems like there might be an issue with your router's settings or firmware. You have tried multiple troubleshooting that worked on other issues like this, but it is not working on your end for some reason. I truly understand that you are frustrated as well but this seems to be a problem on your network already and not on your console so it would also be the best to contact your ISP if the troubleshooting steps that I will provide won't work on your end.

Basing on the statement you provided above, here are some troubleshooting steps that you may try:

.Check for firmware updates
Check your router's manufacturer website for any available firmware updates and install them if there are any.

  1. Check for Xbox Service Alerts: Before diving into troubleshooting, visit the Xbox status page to ensure there are no ongoing service interruptions. If there are alerts, wait until the service is back up and running before proceeding.

  2. Wired Connection (Recommended):

    • A wired network connection is usually more reliable. If possible, connect your Xbox directly to your router or modem using an Ethernet cable.

    • Plug one end of the network cable into a port on your router or gateway, and the other end into the back of your console.

    • If connecting directly to a modem, follow these steps:

      1. Plug one end of the network cable into your modem.

      2. Plug the other end into the back of your console.

      3. Turn off the console by holding the power button for 5 seconds.

      4. Unplug the power cord from the back of the modem.

      5. After 1 minute, plug the modem back in and wait for all lights to return to normal.

      6. Turn on the console.

  3. Inspect Network Cables:

    • Carefully examine all network cables connected to your router, gateway, or modem. Look for kinks, stripped plastic shielding, and exposed or frayed wires.

    • Unplug and inspect the cable connectors (both on the console and the router/gateway/modem). Ensure they are clean and free of debris.

    • Plug them back in securely.

    Test Network Connection:

    • Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

    • Navigate to Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings.

    • Select Test network connection.

    • If the test is successful, your console is connected to the Xbox network.

    • If prompted to update console software, select Yes.

    Wireless Connection:

    • If using Wi-Fi, ensure your router is compatible with your console’s firmware.

    • Test the connection again using the steps above.

    • If successful, consider adjusting your router settings or moving the console closer to the router.

      .Check for firmware updates
Check your router's manufacturer website for any available firmware updates and install them if there are any.

Contact your internet service provider: If none of the above steps work, contact your internet service provider to see if there are any known issues in your area or if they can provide further assistance.

Hope I helped! Please do not hesitate to ask if you have further concerns. I will be waiting for you and I would be more than glad to assist you further.

I am having the same issues. It definitely isn’t the router as we have two Xboxes and the other one connects absolutely no problem. I am having to hotspot every time I want to use it.

If I try to connect to the wifi the xbox says I am connected to the wifi but then won’t let me connect to the Xbox network

I have the same exact issue. 2 Xbox S, and I want to play Forza Horizon 5 with my kid. One seems to be connecting just fine, other seems to not want to connect at all.
