Bought Red Dead Redemption 2 and now I can't play it

I can literally look at the store order from 3 months ago. I bought RDR2 and played it for about a month. Then work got busy and I didn't play for about a month and a half. When I dusted off the xbox and updated everything, the game says I don't own it when I try to launch it. It says "make sure you're signed in and that you own this product" every time I try to start the game. I can't seem to find a Microsoft person to chat with, which is just lousy customer support. Their contact page loops you around and makes false claims that you'll be able to chat with someone or set up a phone call. Absolute "D" (I'd say "F" but at least I can post here...)

Hello dear Gamer, first it's a pleasure to be able to help you today.

Hey Alex, how are you today? Hope you're doing well.

Mate, do you have both Online mode and Story mode of the RD2?

Because, there's a lot of confusion surrounding this game. You would need both modes to play one another. If you have only the Story mode, it would work in the past because the online mode was on the gamepass library, and if you have the subscription, you would be able to play, now, since the Online mode is off the gamepass library, you would need to have it purchased to be able to play it. :/

Thank you for the quick reply. I bought the story mode, but I am disappointed that Microsoft made it really easy to think I was owning something when I wasn’t. I think I might have made a mistake going to with Microsoft over Sony.

I do understand mate, don't know why exactly is being sold like separably, since they need each other to work. But yes, unfortunately, you will need both versions. :( I'm so sorry for the confusion, mate. :/

Well, I feel like I may even really like the online version and it’s only $20. However I’m not seeing the story mode show up under my owned games. So I’m worried if I buy the online version I’m still not going to be able to finish the story. How can I know that if I purchased a $20 online version I will still have access to the story mode I bought several months ago?

So, to make sure of which version you purchase, check out your order history:

https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders

And, also, no, you would have both versions of the game (online and story) to play either of them.

Story Mode won't show up seperately as a game because it isn't actually a game. Story Mode is an add-on for Red Dead Online. Just like other DLC doesn't show up as seperate games, so won't the Story Mode. And FYI, the store is full of notices that you need Red Dead Online to play Story Mode.

Yeah that’s all great but I bought it in game through my Xbox and the disclaimers you point out are not nearly as easy to see. If my memory is right there were none. It was a pay 35 to access this. You did it in game. It unlocked. There was no. BTW!

I’m in the exact same boat. Finally sitting down to play again after a month or so and get hit with the same message. I know I paid for this game. After reading your comment I went and saw the online version is 9.99 if you have xbox gold or whatever. I’m already paying this monthly subscription, so stupid to have to pay again for a part of the game I will never use. I also purchased this in-game so I never saw any of the above disclosures.
