Asobo pretends that importing text (.PLN) files from OneDrive to Xbox is not permitted by Security Standards at Microsoft. Why???

Hi everyone,

Yesterday, I have watched the MSFS 2020 Dev Q&A by Asobo because I wanted to hear why the Xbox Community is treated really poorly in comparison with PC users.

I have suggested some improvements that, I believe (I am an IT professional for quite a while already), could push our simming experience a bit higher (pun intended). One of them was to allow us to import Flight Plans (which basically is a text file in a structure very similar (if not identical) to XML using OneDrive.

At the moment where my question was read by them, I was super excited but Jorg simply downplayed it stating that Security constraints established for the Xbox platform cannot allow them to do that.

I would like to understand why - and actually try to be involved in an improvement initiative on this matter with the required teams at Asobo and/or Microsoft and/or Xbox (if required).

You forget you can't download files

Onto encrypted drives or folders?

That's a security issue

Only official.methods are supported every game and App have certain methods like minecraft which only supports realms mods not downloads

When you upload you aren't uploading to your console

That's completely different

You have to upload to the xbox servers

Your hdd is still encrypted

Nor is downloads supported

Other then official methods

Office documents can be a vulnerability I don't think you realize that

It's how a lot of phishing happens including private html filea

Then modify the repository for PLN files and make it on OneDrive.

So nothing touches Xbox.

There is none you are forgetting you CANT download from non official sources or methods onto any encrypted drive as it's NOT user editable

The browser does NOT support downloads

Ok so the way I read replies is that you do not want to solution something that would be minimally viable for Xbox. So go ahead and close this ticket and mark it as solved.

Maybe for a bit of "solutionning-enablement", I would like to suggest this creative idea (which is not applicable) but shows creativity and "thinking outside the box" : Suggestion.

And here's why it cannot really work and my response :

This is indeed a great idea if .FPL were only a series of waypoints. Unfortunately, these look a lot like (if they are not) XML files (see attached for an example of a 2-hour flight).

If those QR codes would lead us to an external source (web…) that contains this level of details - then I will buy that camera! :wink:

Just to be aware: The person you were talking to is just a fellow gamer, as are the majority of us.

For suggestions, you need the Xbox Reddit....will need to search for it as I can't remember offhand
